Frequently asked questions on flow, head, efficiency and choosing pumps.

What do flow rate and head mean?
Flow rate (m³/h or l/min) is the volume of liquid moved over time; head (m) is the height the pump can lift it to, i.e. the pressure produced. The duty point is where the pump curve meets the system curve.
How do I choose the right circulator?
You need the flow and head required by the system. Wet-rotor circulators (e.g. ALPHA, MAGNA) are electronically controlled and vary speed to save energy. Also check port spacing, connections and fluid temperature.
What is the difference between single-stage and multistage pumps?
Single-stage pumps have one impeller: good flow, limited head. Multistage pumps (e.g. the CR range) stack several impellers to reach high head, ideal for pressure boosting and high pressures.
How do I find the equivalent of an OEM or competitor code?
Use "Find equivalent" and paste the code: we show the matching catalogue models via the cross-reference tables.
What do the IE and EEI efficiency classes mean?
IE (IE3, IE5…) rates the electric motor efficiency; the EEI (Energy Efficiency Index) measures circulator efficiency: the lower it is, the lower the energy use. High-efficiency pumps cut running costs.
